Problem:
Auto-mapping, the ability for Exchange to add a shared mailbox to Outlook needs to be turned off for whatever reason.
Solution:
Connect to Power Shell (please make sure that you set up Power Shell properly for this access):
- Run Windows Power Shell
-
$UserCredential = Get-Credential
-
$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ -Credential $UserCredential -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
-
Import-PSSession $Session
Turn off auto-mapping:
-
Remove-MailboxPermission -Identity <Mailbox ID1> -User <Mailbox ID2> -AccessRights FullAccess
- This removes full access permissions
- Hit Y
-
Add-MailboxPermission -Identity <Mailbox ID1> -User <Mailbox ID2>-AccessRights FullAccess -AutoMapping:$false
- This adds full access permissions without auto mapping
- Hit Y
- Run this command: Remove-PSSession $Session
