Are you not completely sure how to use the Office \nDeployment tool? Are you feeling ambitious? Then this guide was prepared\n for you!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We have laid out precise steps for members who are not familiar \nwith using Windows Command Prompt. We\u2019ve even taken care of the coding \nfor you! So anyone, whatever their level of tech proficiency, can follow\n the steps in this guide to download and install the software.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please Note:<\/strong> Software Assurance allows you to \ninstall the previous version of Microsoft Office instead of the most \ncurrent one. If you do not wish to follow the steps in this guide and \nwould prefer an easier installation, you can install the 2016 version of\n your Microsoft software by following our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/en\/node\/11717\">Office 2016 installation guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this guide to help you install 2019 Microsoft Desktop Apps for Windows, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"\"><tbody><tr><td>\n\nAccess 2019\nOffice Standard 2019\nOffice Professional Plus 2019\n\n<\/td><td>\n\nProject Standard 2019\nProject Professional 2019\nVisio Standard 2019\nVisio Professional 2019\n\n<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the <strong>things you need before you get started:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>an internet connection,&nbsp;<\/li><li>to be running Windows 10,&nbsp;<\/li><li>administrator account password for your PC (Ideally, you should be logged into an administrator account for your installation),<\/li><li>licence activation key or your organization\u2019s VLSC account credentials so that you can get your activation key.\n&nbsp; &nbsp; &#8211; If you have not yet created a VLSC account, please see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/en\/node\/11716\">How to set up a VLSC account guide<\/a>. To check:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Click on the Start menu. Type \u201cApps and features\u201d and select the match with the same name. (Note: You <strong>cannot<\/strong> get to the required page through the Control Panel).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Search the Apps &amp; features list for \u201cMicrosoft Office\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. If the results list &#8220;Microsoft Office \nDesktop Apps&#8221; or &#8220;Microsoft Office 365&#8221; click on the item, and then \nclick \u201cUninstall\u201d. Name it \u201cODT\u201d.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B) Download the Office deployment tool (ODT).<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-ca\/download\/details.aspx?id=49117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Microsoft Download Center  <\/a> and click on the&nbsp;<strong>Download<\/strong> button.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C) Install the ODT.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Open the file to install it. You will be prompted to accept Microsoft\u2019s Software Licence Terms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: If you are not logged into an administrator account, you will be prompted for an administrator&#8217;s password.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D) Store the extracted files in the right folder.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be prompted to select a folder to store the extracted files.&nbsp;<strong>Make sure your username is indicated in the dialogue box.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ODTdialoguebox.png\" alt=\"ODT dialogue box showing folders immediately available; among them the username Maryam is highlighted. This is the folder we created in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/en\/community\/blog\/how-to-install-office-2019-for-windows#step2\">Step 2 Part A<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you opened your ODT folder on your desktop, it should look like the image below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ODT1.PNG\" alt=\"The ODT folder is opened to display the contents; it contains configuration-Office365-x64.xml, configuration-Office365-x86.xml, configuration-Office2019Enterprise.xml, and setup.exe.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Download your configuration file<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>[ + ] Click to learn more about XML files<\/strong><\/a><a>&nbsp; &nbsp; [ \u2012 ] Close<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A) Select the right XML file for your software.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The XML files are available below section B. Click on the name \nof the software you want to install to access the version and language \nyou need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tip:&nbsp;<\/em><em>&nbsp;Are\n you unsure if your computer is 64 bit or 32 bit? You can go ahead and \ndownload the 32 bit version. If you are installing multiple Microsoft \n2019 products, make sure you install the same version for all products.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B) Download the XML file.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you click on a link under the product titles below, you \nwill be taken to a file hosted in box. Download the file by clicking on <strong>Download <\/strong> near the top right corner of the Window. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/box%20download%20configuration.png\" alt=\"Box.com displays the contents of configuration.xml; a red circle hovers over the download button.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A dialogue box may appear after a few seconds. This is the folder we created in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/en\/community\/blog\/how-to-install-office-2019-for-windows#step2\">Step 2 Part A<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you opened your ODT folder, it should like the image below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ODT%202.PNG\" alt=\"The ODT folder is opened to display the contents; configuration.xml is highlighted to show it has been recently added.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT!&nbsp;<\/strong>Your file name must either be displaying \nas &#8220;configuration.xml&#8221; or &#8220;configuration&#8221;. Variations in the file name \nwill cause issues in Step 4C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Download and install your app through the &#8216;Windows Command Prompt&#8217; application<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>[ + ] Click to learn more about Windows Command Prompt<\/strong><\/a><a>&nbsp; &nbsp; [ \u2012 ] Close<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A) Open Windows Command Prompt.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Open Windows Command Prompt by clicking on the <strong>Start button <\/strong> and typing <strong>cmd<\/strong>.&nbsp;  Open the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The command prompt will show your version of Windows and copyright information in the first 2 lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next line will show you your current working directory, it \nshould say something like \u201cC:\\Users\\username\u201d. This is called your home \ndirectory.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B) Change your current directory to the ODT folder on your desktop.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>[ + ] Click to learn more about the cd command<\/strong><\/a><a>&nbsp; &nbsp; [ \u2012 ] Close<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Copy the command below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>cd Desktop\\ODT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Paste this command by right-clicking in the command prompt&nbsp; <br> 3. Hit <strong>Enter <\/strong> on your keyboard to execute the command.&nbsp;    This should change your current working directory to the ODT folder in your Desktop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;Troubleshooting:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe system cannot find the path specified\u201d <\/strong><strong><a>[ + ]Click for troubleshooting help<\/a><\/strong><a>&nbsp; &nbsp; [ &#8211; ] Close<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C) Download your Microsoft 2019 Apps.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Copy and paste the command below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>setup \/download configuration.xml<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hit&nbsp;<strong>Enter<\/strong>  . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/download%20configuration.PNG\" alt=\"The image a command prompt window. The last line reads C:\\Users\\Lautaro\\Desktop\\ODT&gt;setup \/download configuration.xml\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This command can take around 10 minutes to finish running. It \nwill seem as though nothing is happening, but files are being downloaded\n to your ODT folder.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;Troubleshooting:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cCouldn&#8217;t install\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/couldn't%20install.jpg\" alt=\"Pop up window displays Microsoft error message: &quot;Couldn't install. We're sorry, we had a problem installing your Office program(s). Is your internet connection working? Do you have enough free space on your main hard drive? Please try installing again after you've checked the above. Go online for additional help. Error Code: 30029-1007 (0)&quot;\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a>[ + ]Click for troubleshooting help<\/a><\/strong><a>&nbsp; &nbsp; [ &#8211; ] Close<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you opened your ODT folder, it should look like the image below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/ODT%203.PNG\" alt=\"The ODT folder is opened to display the contents; it contains a new Folder called Office.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You will know the command has finished running when the Command Prompt window looks like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/command%20prompt%20download%20complete.PNG\" alt=\"Image shows the Command Prompt box once the download is complete. All rights reserved. c:\\Users\\Maryam&gt;cd Desktop\\ODT c:\\Users\\Maryam&gt; Desktop\\ODT&gt;setup \/download configuration.xml c:\\Users\\Maryam&gt; Desktop\\ODT&gt;\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a new line starting with <strong>C:\\Users\\username<\/strong> where you did not enter a command.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D) Install your Microsoft 2019 Apps.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the previous command has finished running you must copy and paste, the command below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>setup \/configure configuration.xml&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hit&nbsp;<strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be prompted to allow Microsoft to make changes to your device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Once you agree, a display window will appear, showing the progress of your installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/Installing-Office.png\" alt=\"Dialogue box displays the progress of the installation of Microsoft Office 2019.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When the installation is complete, the display will disappear. You can then close the command prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Get your activation key from the VLSC<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>In this step, you will log onto the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) to retrieve your activation key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A) Login to the VLSC.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/Licensing\/servicecenter\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Volume Licensing Service Center  <\/a> and log in with the email listed on your TechSoup Account for Software Delivery.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B) Retrieve your installation key.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Go to the <strong>Downloads and Keys <\/strong> tab. Find the Microsoft 2019 app you are installing in your list of products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Click on the <strong>Key<\/strong> tab beside the product you want to install. Copy the MAK key in the bottom table.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The image below shows the right and wrong keys. Your most recent key is the one with the biggest licence ID number.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: <strong>Do not<\/strong> copy the key under the &#8220;Office online Server 64 Bit&#8221; heading called &#8220;Setup Key&#8221; at the top.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techsoupcanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/Office%20Product%20Key.png\" alt=\"Image shows the Volume Licensing Service Center; displays the Downloads and Keys tab; image displays the correct key table which is titled 'Office Standard 2019,' and the incorrect keys table which is titled \u2018Office Online Server 64 bit.\u2019 \"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6: Activate your software<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A)Open an Office application.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have copied the correct key, open one of your new Microsoft applications. We opened Microsoft Excel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B)Enter the Activation Key.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Open a blank document.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Go to <strong>File&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Account&nbsp;<\/strong>&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Change Product Key<\/strong> and paste your activation Key.
