Problem:<\/strong><\/p>\n

VPN is configured through SBS Console. Client stops getting IPs from DHCP. I was in a situation where I couldn’t reboot the server.<\/p>\n

This post helped up to a certain point. I suspect that there was an errant group policy that prevented the changes from taking effect.<\/p>\n

The following is what fixed it for me: http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/dd469667.aspx<\/a>. What I did was, I created a static IP address pool.<\/p>\n

You can use a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to VPN clients or you can configure an RRAS server to use a static pool of IP addresses for allocation to TCP\/IP-based remote access and demand-dial connections. For more information, see RRAS and DHCP<\/a> (http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?linkid=140605).<\/p>\n

Membership in the local Administrators<\/strong> group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.<\/p>\n

To create a static IP address pool<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open the RRAS MMC Snap-in<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Right-click the RRAS server name, and then click Properties<\/strong>. If you are using Server Manager, right-click Routing and Remote Access<\/strong>, and then click Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. On the Properties<\/strong> page, click the IPv4<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
  4. Under IPv4 address assignment<\/strong>, click Static address pool<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. Click Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  6. In Start IP address<\/strong>, type a starting IP address.<\/li>\n
  7. Type either an ending IP address for the range in End IP address<\/strong>, or type the number of IP addresses in the range in Number of addresses<\/strong>, and then click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  8. Click OK<\/strong>, and then repeat steps 5 through 7 for as many ranges as you need to add.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To configure RRAS to use addresses from a DHCP server<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Open the RRAS MMC Snap-in<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    2. Right-click the server name for which you want to create a static IP address pool, and then click Properties<\/strong>. If you are using Server Manager, right-click Routing and Remote Access<\/strong>, and then click Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. On the Properties<\/strong> page, click the IPv4<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
    4. Under IPv4 address assignment<\/strong>, click Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
